| Pheasant Run Stables' -- News from Utah
THANK YOU to the wonderful people with the Idaho Miniature Horse Club - had another great time Judging your horse show!
Seems like we have had such a busy start to the New Year - our NJ's Kalico Kat HOF'ed in Halter in May, we spent part of March in TN, then part of May in Denver, gearing up for the National Area VII show in Los Angeles (looking forward to meeting all of the great people I spoke to on the phone) Dendra has promised me OODELS of shopping places to check out. Going to Idaho Falls prior to the LA trip to judge a big horse appy show (my first horse/best buddy was an appy! - born and bred in Moscow Idaho!)
OK - it can stop snowing any day now! Happy New Year to all of our Equine Friends! May your 2010 be filled with fun times and good memories.
Back from ASPC/AMHR Convention in Kisseemee (LOL) - 80 degrees out and right smack in the middle of Disney World - didnt get to see much of anything but a board room for the entire week - we did manage to sneak away after the judges' clinic for a horseback ride with several friends, that was tons of fun.
We had quite the ride at the 2009 AMHR Nationals - Ben's 3rd time in the driving arena and he Won his Class! Not only did he win his first Nationals driving class (we kept thinking Mark was going to say Oops - computer glitch) - he went on to get Reserve in the Ladies (hate it when the judges see ya cantering!) He also won the Stallions Under, Third in the Gentlemen's with Mike Landis at the whip and 10th in the Golden Age with Mommy Judy - then WON the Grand Championship Stakes Class! Angelina held her own as well, placing in her driving classes, the futurity and 3rd in Open Halter Mares - she also went Reserve National Champion with Tanner Maxfield in the PMC Youth Class. Not to be missed was the team of Alan & Peek and Mike & Ben winning the 2009 National Championship Produce of Dam class for their equine Mommy - Wa-Full Bennihana! We had a good show - good times and goo friends.

It is official! Ben (NJ's Quite the Cat & NJ's Angelina made their driving debut at the 2009 MWMHSPO Norther X-posure Show in Logan! Both did fabulous at their very first show - and here we come to R Nationals! Ben was just Great - well mannered and learing to gather himself - went one 1st and three 2nds in Open and four 2nds in the Stakes - Angelina won all four 1sts in Ladies and two 2nds and two 1sts in the Stakes! Thank you to Mike Landis of Magic Touch Training Center for all his expertise, diligence, time and training he put on these two ponies! We would HIGHLY recommend his expertise on any pony or horse you wanted started in the cart or re-trained WITH a huge and high degree of MANNERS both on the ground and in the cart.
Congratulations to NJ's Extra Awesome! Owned and love by NJ Pony Farm - this fabulous filly won her 2 YO Modern Pleasure Futurity Class at the 2009 Congress! Awesome was sired by our AGS HI-Lee Extraterrestrial Modern pony and is out of Neil & Judy's NJ's Awesome Image (by Spit N Image) mare.
Wow - What a year 2009 has been for us. Judged many shows this summer - especially honored in judging the Area VII show in California. On a very sad note we recently lost our NJ's Black Pearl, our beloved and oh so missed by us and her best buddy Heaven. Pearl was a yearling when she came into our lives and changed our direction in our breeding. She took the show ring by a storm and won many Supremes, her HOF, several National Championships, and was such a good natured loving mare to horse buddes and people buddies alike. She has left a big impression on all those that knew her. We rushed Pearl to surgery just the instant she became ill - the vets waited for signs of distress, finally following surgery they had found a displaced large intestine - all went well, however the results following didnt. She passed away from Illius. A better description would be, that following the surgery even tho that had gone extremely well, her system did not react, and quit working. We thank the veterinarians at South Valley Animal Hospital, we thank Mike Landis for visiting her everyday (sometimes twice) and burying her in a quiet pasture.
Could Spring be around the corner? We sure hope so - we know many friends have had just horrible weather this year and I am sure they are just looking as forward to warmer weather as we are. We actually have no foals coming this year - but are leasing NJ's Miss Kate from Neil & Judy Gottlob of NJ Pony Farm and breeding her to Elli Verba's stallion Harbrooks Mo Mischief - this is a breed we purchased from the Classic Sweepstakes Auction in 2008. We are all extremely excited about this cross. We are planning a few mares to breed to Sprit this year - Ben will need to wait until 2011 to breed, he is getting ready to hit the shows in the cart this year.
Finally HOME! Had a world wind trip across the TX, OK, & MO. Judged the Texas' AMHR Club's Spooktacular! What a FUN show that was! Wonderful people and some really awesome Horses and Ponies! Next to Lake Tawakoni to visit Mom - talk about a slice of New England planted in Texas - then off to Branson Missiouri and the National Convention - Branson is a pretty interesting place - Convention was great - Kudo's to Deloris Williams and her club and family for always going the extra mile for the ASPC/AMHR. Settling in here for Winter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year!
2008 AMHR Nationals was fabulous! For the first time - one of our own bred horses that was sold as a weanling to the Brunelle's of Meridian Idaho showed - VI's Tattoo'ed and Cruzin won TWO Nationals Championships and earned Top Tens in most all of the performance classes he was entered. Got to visit with and see all our friends from across the United States - Angelina placed in the Futurity, 11th in Open and 3rd in Liberty - we picked up our new NJ Pony -NJ's Kalico Kat- a full sister to our Ben and Pearl - and full sister to Alan & Tammi Dial's stallion Peek. Peek was awesome and won a National Championship and two Reserve National Championships - another full sister Cat - owned by Lori Lancaster had only been in the cart a short two months (trained by Mike Landis) -this was her first "driving show" went Reserve National Champion in her Futurity Class and placed Top Ten in the Halter Fururity and Open.
Getting ready for our 2008 Logan show - 91 horses & ponies entered! Then off to Tulsa for the AMHR National Show!
THANK YOU TAMMI & ALAN & WAYNE DAVIS! Angelina went to MT - Grand Champion mare under all FOUR judges and took Supreme with Wayne Davis' showing under two! We just attended the Weber Fair Show and NJ's Sandhill Spirit is now Hall of Famed Classic Shetland!
Good Luck to Tammi & Alan Dial - they are heading to the 4 judge Great Falls Montana show and taking up Angelina with them to show for us (darn day job!)
Congratulations and thank you to Bud & Patti Lee - they have purchase K-Dee's Tobasco Cat - The Lee's live in Kallispell Montanta (my favorite state!) we will be meeting them at Sally's in Lima (my favorite breakfast sausages!) woo hoo!
Blackfoot Idaho - Snake River Miniature Horse Club 's 6th Annual Show was just awesome! NJ's Angelina went Supreme under all three judges and also received the last points needed for her Halter Hall of Fame! More ponies were in attendance at the show this year - and KUDOS to all the people who put on such a fun show!
Congratulations and thank you to Susie Greenlee and her Mom for purchasing Concheeta and Ivy. They have the perfect set up for miniatures and Suzie's Dad -what a craftsman- the coolest barns he built without plans (gabled barns) - they are just 3 miles up the road from us and are just the type of home we love to sell our horses to.
Drove up to Caldwell Idaho to attend the All Star Miniature Horse Show - we had such a great time at the show and applaud the event organizers on their hard work. The weather was cool - but perfect for showing. The facility has the neatest stalls, basically they were HUGE - a Clysdale had room to stretch and roll in them.
Area VIII National Show has come and gone. 154 horses entered, 522 classes - WHAT a show! The weather was a bit cool and times, and on and off again showers - but it didn't snow and Sunday was just a wonderful sunny "Utah" day. We had a great show, NJ's Sandhill Spirit went Grand Champion Classic Stallion Under, our Angelina went Grand Champion Over Mini, Champion of Champions Over, and Best in Show.
Oregon was just fabulous as Usual! Weather was a bit on the nippy side - but at least it didn't snow! Diane just goes more so than over the Top on this show - she leaps Mountains! What a great time everyone had!
ITS A FILLY! - Meet VI's Enchanted Spirit -aka - Ellie - First Foal of the year and our first foal from Spirit - Born 4-9-2008 - NJ's Sandhill Spirit x Teddy's Mercury Miss
Running off to Oregon - - to work the Oregon Gold Show managed by Mrs. Diane Zmoleck (and her wonderful husband) -- this is a First Class Event -- and about as close as you can get to Congress or Nationals without being there. The horses are incredible - the exhibitors are extremely talented - and the facility is first rate. Last year there was well over 200 horses and ponies at the event and this year there will be several non-rated CDE type Cones classes sponsored by Happs. (hoping to sneak out of the show office and play!)
Spring has Sprung! and only a WEEK of mud season! - has gone from 30s to 50s in less than a month. Needless to say we are loving it and so are the PONIES! Wish there was a marketplace that bought HAIR ! Our First Show this year is the Area VIII Show in Ogden - trying to pull out all the stops to put on a wonderful show for the exhibitors and YOUTH! Hobby Horse Clothing Company has donated 3 $100.00 certificates to the YOUTH at our show in their "Rookie Rewards" program!
Having an awfully snowy winter here in Utah! Airport has closed several times due to wind and snow, very unusual for us. We have not had this much snow in 6 years (darn why didn't we get those sleigh runners!). Andy went into surgery in January to repair some wandering cartiledge in his elbow - now in therapy I did manage to get him to trim one mini the other day and he was sore for two days afterwards. (scary when prior surgery he could do 34 in 1 day)
There and back from the ASPC/AMHR National Convention in Buffalo, New York. Lea Dill and her team did an outstanding job. All those in attendance need 100% applause as they went ABOVE and beyond the 2006 Trainer's Auction record. Monies raised help the local area that put on the convention and also to purchase trophies for ALL of our youth that attend the National shows. Bob & Mary Sansavere from Minnesota were there and Gentry & Phantom picked up their EIGHTH much snow in 6 years (darn why didn't we get those sleigh runners!). Andy went into surgery in January to repair some wandering cartiledge in his elbHOF plaques - (the only two horses in the history of ASPC/AMHR to have won so many). Bob played auctioneer there for awhile and was just the best comedian while doing so. We will be heading to the Snake River Miniature Horse Club Christmas party and our own Mountain West Club's Christmas party in the next few weeks. The Mountain West Miniature Horse and Sheltand Pony Owner's also won the bid for the 2008 Area VIII Regional Show - the show will be May 22nd thru to the 25th, 2008 at the Golden Spike Arena, Weber County Fairgrounds, Ogden, Utah.
Well wasn't this the Show Of Shows for Us! Not only did our NJ's Quite the Cat (Ben) go Res. National Champion in the Futurity - our mares placed in all their classes in the top - did that prepare us for Spirit--Winning the 2007 AMHR National Grand Champion Stallion Over Class! SINCERE THANK YOU to the unequaled expert handling of all our halter horses this year at AMHR Nationals by Gary M. Yeager Jr., you made our show the best we have ever had - you taught us all lots in the halter ring - you were an awesome Gentleman - you made us laugh - and was there to lean on when we all cried.
Getting packed and ready to go to Tulsa for the 2007 AMHR Nationals!
Just finished our Weber Fair and Logan show. Our K-Dee Sir Gentry earned his EIGHTH HOF in Versatility! Showed Spirit as a Classic and he won Grand and Supreme under all four judges. Congratulations to the Dial's whose newly purchased NJ's PeekABoo Feet stallion (and full brother to our Ben and Pearl) won all the Grands and two Supremes - PeekABo consequently Hall of Famed at this show - earning his dam WaFull Benihana a DOUBLE SUPERIOR DAM HOF! - Benihana is owned and very much loved by NJ Pony Farm!
Blackfoot was awesome! Came home with Spirit winning the Supreme "B" Stallion Halter Division and thanks to the GPO - THREE boxes of premium french fry Idaho potatoes! What another wonderful show put on by the Snake River Miniature Horse Club!
Our NJ's Quite the Cat (aka Ben) HOFed in Halter! Getting ready to head to Blackfoot Idaho for their show July 20th - they do such a nice job. Been VERY HOT here the past TWO months - our temps have actually been in the 100s for weeks now. Having to work horses in the early morning - and late evenings. After Blackfoot its off to Norco, Califonia - judging a show for the PCMHC. Entries are also in the mail for 2007 R Nationals! We are taking a total of 12 horses - picking up NJ's Angelina on the way and getting to spend some time with Neil & Judy Gottlob. Our crew to Nationals is Alan & Tammi Dial (they are taking four horses), Mike Landis (two horses), Pam Baily (two horses), Luwana Day (one horse), and our four.
Attended a show in Powell Wyoming - got to go with Pam Bailey from Grantsville, Utah - we had such fun. Rebecca Soule puts on this show and we weren't able to go last year - was in Nebraska - Brenton Crowl (one of our newest youth club members from Idaho) won the Youth High Point Award, Luwana Day was High Point Ammy, and our Sir Gentry somehow won High Point "A" performance horse! Rebecca does a nice nice job with this show as does her entire family who turn out to help in the arena.
Judged a show with Sami Scheuring in Caldwell, Idaho - what a wonderful time we had - never did we finish anyone conversation. The show was wonderful - lots of NEW people coming in the show arena - Kudo's to Lisa Weinstein and Pam McFarland for their very first sanction show - they are planning a two day show for 2008 and possibly a clinic. The drive to Caldwell was also fun as we had Dendra Player (who announced) keeping us laughing the entire trip!
Returned from Lake Tawakoni Texas, from 3 day trip to celebrate my Mom's 75th Birthday - was she surprised! Working on entries for our Memorial Weekend ASPC/AMHR Show in Ogden - also just got a horse in from Montana to get to the cart for their owners. A lady came to see us that purchased her first miniature - she used to come to our facility when we boarded the big horses and held open shows here 15 years ago. She is excited to show her yearling and maybe looking for more minis to purchase in the future!
What a FIRST CLASS SHOW the Oregon Gold ASPC/AMHR show is! Diane and her husband Steve do everything with 100% style and class. Weather was perfect, the arena was just beautiful - the horses were absolutely breathtaking (when i got to see any). Altho I was pretty much "in" the show office the entire show, I was asked to be the "Best in Show" judge - that was exciting - every Supreme Champion in its division (Mini A and B, Foundation, Classic, Modern, Modern Pleasure were represented. There are some very AWESOME horses and ponies out West here!
Running off to Oregon - have been recruited by Mrs. Diane Zmoleck to secretary their 2007 Gold Coast Show utilizing the new show program recently purchased by the ASPC/AMHR. After spending two weeks glued to the computer and entering entries - this will be a well deserved and exciting trip. I am still amazed at the number or ponies (239) entered in the show -- Diane tells me several surprises await the exhibitors, and there is a stage involved.
Spring has sprung in Utah - Spent St Patricks day weekend in Grantsville, Utah - judging with Mr. Larry Parnell - who followed up the show with a two day driving clinic. Mr. Parnell graciously shared many driving tips, hints and insights - and the weather was perfect.
Recently home from 2006 ASPC/AMHR Convention - Laurie did receive her Judges Card! And NJ's Sandhill Spirit received his HOF in Halter! Gentry missed his HOF in Versatility by only 11 points - and Ben missed his HOF in Halter by 10 or so points - just gonna have to show at more than 4 shows in 2007! Nestling in for winter, altho we are glad it hasn't snowed yet!
AMHR NATIONAL CHAMPION !! First Congress then R Nationals - Spirit again won the Owned, Bred and Shown Class with Judy!
CONGRESS CHAMPION & 2 TIME RES. CONGRESS CHAMPION!! Many Thanks to Elli Verba of Verba Shetlands for an outstanding job showing Spirit at Congress! Spirit is shown here with Judy Gottlob, who is his breeder and this is his placing from the Owned, Bred & Shown Class.
Supremes & Grands! NJ's Sandhill Spirit! Our Mini/Shetland Stallion is packing in the ribbons for the 2006 show season! Spirit is being shown in Area VI and recently just won their area show. On his way to Congress & Nationals.
Its a Filly! After 3 years - our Spit N Image daughter (on lease from NJ Pony Farm) has foaled a DUPLICATE of herself - by our Pony Vista Hi-Lee Son - our new filly has come into the world in style - under the watchful eyes of Wayne and Marsha Kenley of "Bended Knee" Miniatures - we are going to name her VI's Hi-Lee Awesome!
Summer is upon us - our first show is just around the corner - we won't be going to too many this year as Laurie is now apprenticing for her Classic, Modern, and Miniature Horse Judges' card.
Special THANK YOUS to the ladies in Montana who hosted us to a wonderful weekend in Montana and we presented a driving clinic for them.
